This position administers zoning and subdivision regulations, the primary tools used to guide City objectives to accomplish stated goals; assists with development of planning projects, updates to the comprehensive plan and short-term work program, redevelopment plan for improvement areas, and implementation of various enhancement projects; assists with updating and developing maps using GIS; and coordinates and administers the land development process. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Community Development Director.

Bryan County, GA is seeking a highly qualified Director of Planning & Zoning with strong leadership skills. The County is located in the beautiful coastal area of southeast Georgia and is one of the fastest growing counties in the region with a population of approximately 40,000 and a median family income over $72,000. The Director is expected to professionally evaluate the needs of the current Planning department and recommend changes that will serve the needs of this fast-growing community. 

 

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Planning, Civil Engineering, Public or Business Administration or related field; Master's degree preferred. Five years of local government planning and zoning experience required. AICP certification preferred.

Chief Building Official / Code Enforcement Director

Responsible for the enforcement of state-adopted building codes, city ordinances, and code enforcement. Assists in hiring, schedules, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel. Requires knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and construction codes. City Manager assigns work in terms of department goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews work through conferences, reports, and observation of department activities. Guidelines include building codes, city ordinances, and property maintenance codes. Work consists of varied supervisory, administrative, inspection, and code enforcement duties. Position has direct supervision over a GIS analyst and an administrative assistant. Knowledge and competency commonly associated with 3 to 5 years construction or inspection experience and completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school diploma or GED.
