Preservation is:

—Exterior Material Changes

- Materials

- Roof Shape

- Massing/scale

- Setbacks

- Fenestration (windows and doors)

- Compatibility

- Preservation

 

HPC members should be:

- Architect

- Planner

- Landscape Architect

- Historian

- Preservationist

- Neighborhood Representative (can read plans!)

- Professional and Courteous!

 

Historic Preservation should be a clear process:

—- Easy to Understand Application

- —Public Notice

—- Meet with Applicant

—- Concise and Clear Staff Review

—- On Time Meeting

—- Quick Turn around of COA

 

As staff, provide customer service:

—- Meet in advance

—- Provide guidance and support

—- List of qualified architects/contractors
- Engineers

—- Outreach programs

—- Design Awards

 

Collaborate with Stakeholders:

—- Building Code Official

—- Public Works/Engineering

—- Fire Marshal

—- Code Enforcement

- More Suggestive than prohibitive

- Compatibility is key

- Don't regulate paint color!
