   President Judy Garrett called the Board meeting of GAZA to order at 5:02 p.m.

 

   Minutes of the previous board meeting held on September 14, 2007, at the Jones County

   Chamber of Commerce in Gray, Georgia, had been mailed and emailed to all board members.

   After review and discussion, Ken Patton made a motion, seconded by Nancy Seegar, to approve

   the minutes as written.  Motion passed unanimously.

 

   A financial report was distributed to all board members in attendance.  After review and

   discussion, Steve Scholar made a motion, seconded by Sharyn Darlington, to approve the

   financial report.   Unanimous approval.

 

  The Nominating Committee report was presented by Chairman Nancy Seegar and the following

  office and board positions were presented for consideration:

                        Secretary-Treasurer:                      Norman W. Pope

   These officers, if elected, would serve thru the Winter Conference date in 2010.

 

                           Board Member:              Darryl Simmons  Term to expire 2011

                           Board Member:              Ken Patton         Term to expire 2011

                           Board Member:              Duane Treadon    Term to expire 2010

                                                               (To fill unexpired term of Nancy Seegar)

 

   Election of officers and board members will take place at the GAZA business meeting to be held

   on Thursday, February 7, 2008.

 

   A review of the planned sessions for the upcoming winter conference was conducted and the

   introduction of speakers for the conference was assigned to different board members.

 

   Pauletta Rogers reported to the Board that we had 147 registrations for the Winter Conference

   and 41 of those attendees were “first-timers”.  Pauletta also reported that the give-away would be

   a shirt since the cooler/chair was quite expensive.  In other news related to the upcoming

   conference, the registration fee for Bobby Gay, the GAZA webmaster, and his city manager had

   been waived for this conference.  Pauletta also reported that the 2008 Summer Conference would

   be held at Lake Lanier Islands resort and the room rate would be $139.00/night.  That conference

   is scheduled for July 16 to July 18, 2008.  The 2009 Summer Conference is scheduled for August

   12 – 14, 2009, at the Marriott in Savannah, and the room rate for that meeting will be

   $134.00/night.

 

   Ken Patton made a report to the Board concerning the continuing education requirements to

   maintain AICP certification and the process by which GAZA could be classified as a qualified

   provider of those courses.  After lengthy discussion, Randy Mannino made a motion, seconded

   by Nancy Seegar, to form a committee to look at all aspects of GAZA being a provider of these

   services and if this would be a benefit to the membership of GAZA.  Motion passed unanimously. 

   The President will serve as Chair of this committee.

 

   Discussion was held concerning the current status of the GAZA website and the need to keep it

   updated more frequently.  Randy Mannino offered the services of Richard Osborne to assist

   Bobby Gay, GAZA webmaster, to keep more current information on the website. 

 

   Meeting was adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
